Maison Mantin (Moulins, Allier) The Maison Mantin is a late 19th-century bourgeois residence located in Moulins, France. Its history is fascinating because it's the result of a unique testamentary will. Its owner, Louis Mantin (1851-1905), a wealthy collector and scholar, bequeathed his house to the city of Moulins with a very specific clause: it was to be preserved as is and opened to the public exactly 100 years after his death, as a testimony to the life of a 19th-century bourgeois. After his death in 1905, the house was sealed and remained practically frozen in time. In 2010, a century after the neighboring museum's inauguration, the house reopened its doors after extensive restoration work. Today, it offers a journey into the past, with its eclectic collections of art objects, furniture, period decorations, and even the modern amenities of the time (such as electricity and running water).
