This factory built fiberglass replica of a 1929 Mercedes Gazelle SSK roadster does not need restoring, it is turn key. Built on a (then new) 1983 Mustang 4 cylinder, automatic transmission with AC, it has under 10,000 original miles. With the brown fenders and yellow body colors part of the gel-coat fiberglass the finish is nearly as good as the day this hand made auto rolled off the assembly line. Also the undercarriage is rust free.
Fall 07 – Spring 08 this condition ranged $14–16K E-Bay with a couple 0 mileage ones (with round tube bumpers, and no running boards???) having buy now prices of $24–25K. Then there was the trip to bring to NH more $$. I have been told by a former employee, this would cost over 50K to duplicate today. It was $24K back then or you could buy kit for $7K and go to salvage yard for used running gear.
This an economical driver and of course it has a heater, defrosters, top, tonneau cover, side curtains and top boot. The radio is terrible, but that’s an easy swap out. It has a nice interior, rear jump seat and locking rear trunk. This fun straight driving automobile turns heads and gets thumbs up every time I go to a car show.
I have replaced the alternator, battery, voltage regulator, defroster lines and steering knuckle coupling (bad material from age). Also, the ugly stock mustang muffler was made right by Mineke, as well as a recent wheel alignment. I replaced the sticking stop light switch last week. Easy to obtain, local parts store 83 Mustang and also NOTE, most all body and trim still available NOS today.
Offering this original Gazelle for much less than another restored one? listed on CL for $14K. ALSO will consider older vehicle swap up or down (not a project) 30’s to 50’s and must be easy to get in and out of but CA$H always works good. Please be realistic, $8000 ain’t gonna cut it. As a buyer you can have fun while your investment gains in value back to the 07-08 level
