1963 R-2319

Here is an extremely Rare, 1963 Studebaker Avanti R2 Sport Coupe with a Factory installed Paxton Supercharger. It is a Black Plate California car that has spent its' entire life in sunny California and has been in storage for most of the past 25 years until recently undergoing a gorgeous restoration! The Studebaker Avanti was a fiberglass bodied Sport Coupe and its' smooth lines, under the bumper radiator air intake and wedge-shaped design were the Avanti's hallmarks. !963 was the first year of Avanti production and this is one of only 3834 produced that year. The Supercharged option was ordered on a very small percentage of that total.

The option list as it is currently equipped is:
* -289 Cu In 289 HP 4BBL V8 Engine
* -Paxton Supercharger
* -Automatic Transmission with Floor Shifter
* -Power Steering
* -Power Brakes
* -AM Radio (works)
* -Chrome Wire Wheels
* -Red Line Radial Tires

The VIN is: 63R2319

The Body Plate numbers are: 63-RQ 1484

The Engine Block Stamping # is: RS 1590

The body is fiberglass and is straight as an arrow. There doesn't appear to be any signs of any prior accident history and it is evident that the initial quality of workmanship of the fiberglass was very superior and high quality. The Jet Black paint finish is high quality as well and has been color sanded, buffed and polished to a high luster and it's gorgeous! The chrome, for the most part, is all new and beautiful, as well! The glass is all in great shape and the weatherstripping is all new. All of the chassis components are original and untouched and are as solid and rust free as you would expect a California car to be!
The interior is the original two-tone colors of Cream and Smoked Elk and it is beautiful! The seats have been recovered with the correct color, pattern and grain and the carpets are new as well. The door panels and headliner are original and very sharp and the dash pad is very nice with only one small area with a few cracks. There is a complete set of instruments and the gauges are all clean and bright and other than the clock and tachometer, all work as they should. The wipers work as well as the horn, heater fan and all the running lights. The original AM Radio plays beautifully! A couple interesting design features are the overhead console that houses the headlight, dash light and heater switches and the vanity and cup-holders located in the glove box.
Mechanically, this Rare little Musclecar is in great shape and is ready for summertime cruising! In some of the original paperwork, I found a notation that the engine had been rebuilt in 1978 and according to the odometer, has only been driven about 1,100 miles since. The odometer now reads 82,312 miles which I believe to be the original miles although I have no documentation to verify it. The engine runs great and the Supercharger works fine. The transmission shifts as it should and has a small seal leak, but nothing serious. The brakes and exhaust appear in good shape and the tires are new. The engine compartment is stock and very presentable. This car drives and handles like a well maintained and cared for, low mileage car and it's a blast to drive!
Included with this Rare Collector Car are the original Owner's Manual and sleeve, Shop Manual, Radio Instructions, Name Plate Registration and Name Plate and assorted Parts books. Also included is a new set of original hubcaps.
When was the last time you saw an original, Factory Supercharged Avanti? This is a superior example of a Rare, California Avanti and it is now being offered for the first time in over 25 years! Please email or call with any questions and I can help with shipping quotes and arrangements. I welcome International bidders!
