1963 Studebaker Avanti R 2 Supercharged, Power Shift Automatic, Power Steering, Power Windows. Power Disk Brakes. Be sure and follow the more pictures link at the end of my description ! As some of you may know, I find nice Studebakers around the country, fix them up and find new homes for them on Ebay. I bought this Avanti locally from a owner that parked it about 3 years ago because of a broken key in the ignition, believe it or not. After installing a new switch, battery, adding some fresh gas and odds and ends it was on the road again. I had to install a new power window motor on one side, and rebuild the other and attend to other minor issues. The car looks like it was restored some years ago, with a new dash pad, interior items and trunk carpets and paint. Sadly, the paint job looks better in the pictures then it does close up. The paint is peeling and blistering in spots, trust me, the car needs paint. Other then the paint, the rear bumper could use a replate, and of course you'll want to detail under the hood, install new weather stripping and emblems if you are going for a show car. Since the body is fiberglass, chassis rust is not uncommon and the first thing a experienced Avanti shopper might ask is: "How are the hog troughs and frame ?"One clue to answering that question is the looking at condition of the rear, trunk support tube. Since it's really little more that a cross member made from exhaust tubing. it's sort of a "rust fuse" If it's solid, the hog troughs and frame will be also, and on this car, it's not even surface rusted. (see detail pictures link at page bottom below) The engine was rebuilt at some point, and carries great oil pressure and runs strong. The supercharger. power steering, exhaust and charging system are in great working condition. The transmission shifts smartly and the power disk brakes pull the car to a stop smoothly. The tires have great tread and the car drives out very nicely. You'll want to detail under the hood if you will be showing the car, but everything is in place. The battery has been relocated to the trunk for better weight distribution, but could be mover back up front if you like. The rare, Deluxe interior seat trim is not torn, the carpets show only minor ware. The headliner is intact, but dirty, the dash pad is new. All the gages and accessories work, the steering wheel is in very nice shape. Nothing in the interior needs to be replaced for anything other then trailer queen, national show level judging It's much better then driver quality, but still needs a good cleaning. Nice supercharged Avanti's sell in the 20-30K range and this car is a paint job and odds and ends away being a very nice car. Just 4500 Studebaker Avanti's were built and all are very collectable, the supercharged versions even more so. Finding a running, driving car like this with a rust free chassis and a low reserve is a unusual opportunity.
