I bought this car without an engine or transmission installed as a stalled restoration project. All the hard work is done on this body and is ready for the next step in restoration. The hog troughs have already been replaced ($1000 in materials and about 40 hours in labor). This alone, on a car needing them, is easily a $3k to $3500 job alone! The frame is well above average needing mostly clean-up and a new rear crossmember installed. The interior of this car, other than needing replacement carpets, is easily good enough for a driver- class car. The headliner is in excellent condition, the dash is good (but showing some age), all gauges and controls are in place, the steering wheel, while not perfect, is nice. This Avanti also has power windows. This car also has the optional rear window defroster located at the right side of the package tray. In looking this car over, the only things I can find that are missing are the sill plates and the fan shroud. All other items appear to be here and in good condition. The body does need paint and prep work. There are a few small areas needing repair. These are the holes around the bumper bracket supports that are found damaged quite often as well as some minor cracks at the wheelwells. Also, as you can see in the pictures, there are 2 small areas on each side from the replacement of the hog troughs. These are very low on the car and will repair quite easily. This is a power steering car and all the power steering stuff is still attached. This car also has power disc brakes, as all Avantis do, and a 3.73:1 rear axle. At this time, the body is loose from the frame as necessary to do the hog trough replacements. It will be no trouble to have the body bolted back down in several places by the time it is picked up. This car also does have a clear title. If you have an Avanti with a bad frame or one that is wrecked or with bad hog troughs, this would be an excellent parts donor. With the addition of any Studebaker V8 and a powershift transmission, this car could be back on the road in a matter of a few weekends. I would hate to part this car out even knowing that the parts value alone on this one would be well over $6k! If you have an Avanti, you know how valuable these parts are when you go to buy them piece by piece. The reserve on this auction is well below the value of the individual pieces.
