1922 Roadster

1922 Whisky Six

Here we have a very fascinating 1922 Studebaker four door Roadster. This is a very rare Studebaker with five previous owners. The current owners have had this vehicle for the past 17 years and believe it to be 1 of only 3 Special Roadsters that still exist. The engine is a 288 cubic inch six cylinder engine with a 3 speed manual transmission. This Studebaker has 18,588 miles on it and has been maintained very well. The vehicle has had a previous frame off restoration done by Dick Evans and was done in the original color. The chrome is in perfect condition. The car is in very presentable condition and has served the current owners very well in the New England area as a strong touring car. The interior is totally original with leather bucket seats in the front, a wooden tilt steering wheel, lockable transmission and a factory original burglar alarm. The car has optional Budd disc (con't)

brakes, 28" Goodyear Silvertown Tires and also has a bird whistle, train whistle and wolf whistle. It has an optional side mount trunk on the passenger side front fender and running boards which give this Studebaker a rather sporty look. The car is also equipped with the original jack and rear mounted spare, clock, side curtains, spot light and tool kit. It also comes with the original owners manual and a reproduced shop manual. This is a car with unusual 1920's style as well as a history. The car was named "Old Bobtail" because of the unusual body style, but they were also referred to as "Whiskey Sixes" because of their popularity with the bootleggers. The first owner of this car was a bootlegger who got the car confiscated by Canadian Customs who sold the vehicle at an auction in 1927 to Francis Ingals for $25.00. This Studebaker was also featured in the movie "The Newton Boys" and was driven by Matthew Mcconaughey who also drove this vehicle to the opening premier.(con't)

In addition to the vehicle the following spare parts are included in the sale, spare engine #89001-4/15/22, clutch parts, upper windshield frame, windshield cowl, spare rear end, headlight assembly, spare generator, 2 Budd disk wheels, radiator shell,3 leaf springs, spare top bows, and a frame lubrication chart. Plus what ever else might be found before the end of the auction. This historical 1922 Studebaker is a wonderful car that represents a truly great era.

1922 Custom Sunbeam Bodied Six

(1922 Custom Bodied Six)

VIN - 24512419
ENGINE - 6 CYL
EXT COLOR - BLACK
DOCUMENTATION SHOWS THIS VEHICLE TO BE A '22 STUDEBAKER CHASSIS. CUSTOM ASSEMBLED WITH A SUNBEAM TOURING CONVERTIBLE BODY. BACK IN THE '20s AND '30s IT WAS A COMMON PROCESS TO HAVE A BODY AND CHASSIS UNITED FROM COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MANUFACTURERS. THIS FORMER MOVIE CAR WAS OWNED BY WARNER BROS. UNTIL THE MID '60s. IN 1922, SUNBEAM HELD THE WORLD LAND SPEED RECORD SO IT IS NOT OUTSIDE THE REALMS OF POSSIBILITIES THAT THEY WERE SUMMONED TO CREATE A SPORTY BODY FOR ANOTHER MANUFACTURER.
