How does the heater control valve cable connect at the console end? The lever has a down facing flat hook on it. The cable has a circular fitting on it. There's no obvious way the two can mate. ---------------------------------- had an 88 with similar problem. The cable to the mixing box on the passenger side was not working. When I replaced the cable which incidently is Chrysler and too long to fit properly. With my 88 you either had your feet burned off by too much hot air or you were cold. There was no in between. When I checked with Bob Lucarell in Dearborn he just sort of laughted. Good Luck. ------------------------------------- The circular end of the cable fits into the down facing hook on the lever. There is a small(very small) retainer clip that fits on the down facing hook. The molded plastic on the end of the cable sleeve fits into a slot on the lever block. Let me know if I can help Peter. -------------------------------- Ernest: Where can I find one of the retainer clips? Now I know why the cable slips off of the lever. I got tired of fighting the cramped space under the dash and I now adjust the valve on the heater hose under the hood for hot or cold. With a new clip perhaps it will not pop off. The problem is in my '88 convertible. By the way, the heater/air control lever is the same as on '80's GM motorhomes. ---------------------------------- found a clip for the control end of the heater cable on my 87 coupe. AutoZone. A box of miscellaneous clips behind the counter. Round. Grey. Hole in the middle. Metal bent up around the hole so that it slides on but grips when you try to slide it off. 20 cents apiece. I tried one and it worked even though the hook on the lever has a square profile. I'm going to buy a couple more and stack them behind each other. ------------------------------------------- All the heater cable clips you could wish for are in a drawer at Ace Hardware titled "Push clips". They're all based on the principle of springy teeth sliding easily one way but not the other. The 3/16" push cap fits perfectly on the round stud on the heater valve itself. I have another pushed onto the square rod on the level end. We will see how long it lasts. At 10 - 30 cents apiece I can afford to try a few until one stays put. ----------------------- I don't know a source for the clip. I have a GMC pickup and it uses a cable vaccum system for heat and air. It uses a similar clip to attach the cable. I would suggest a junk yard and look for a Chevrolet S10 or GMC Sona\oma pickup or Jimmy - Blazer and get the clip off one of those. My only other suggestion would be an auto supply and look thru their clips and see if you can make something work. Ernest -------------------------------
