My grandfather was Paul Camplese, founder of Paul Camplese & Son Studebaker/Packard in Harrisburg, PA. He founded the dealership in 1943 and operated it until 1960, when my father, Anthony E. Camplese, took over. The original operation began as a used car lot a few blocks from the current building, which was completed in 1946. Paul Camplese & Son operated as a Studebaker and Packard dealership and an authorized repair shop and inspection station until Studebaker's demise in 1964. In 1964, Paul Camplese & Son became a Fiat/Lancia dealership under the leadership of my father, Tony Camplese. After his death in 1978, my mother, Mary P. Camplese, took over until 1984, when Fiat discontinued its US operations. During that time period, Antonia M. Camplese was general manager. After she left, around 1989, the repair shop eked along for a few years but the auto business essentially ended by 1990. The business became a thrift shop/used furniture operation.
