David F. Collier started the Collier legacy selling pre-owned automobiles under the banner Collier Auto Sales in 1956. He was successful because of the great service and care he provided before letting one of his customers drive away. In 1965 David moved the dealership to Orange and Marks streets. As he did so, Collier Auto Sales evolved into a multi brand new and used car dealership offering Studebaker, BMW, MG, DKW, Sunbeam, Triumph, and Simca models. The Jaguar brand was also added to the Collier portfolio, a relationship that lasts to this day.During the mid and late 1980’s the auto industry began to change in ways that had not been seen since Henry Ford invented the assembly line. Japanese cars were flooding the American market, largely due to the gas crisis of a decade earlier. In 1989, with more competition and the demise of older brands such as Sunbeam and MG, David moved Collier Auto Sales to its present location on West Colonial Drive. Later that year, Ford Motor Company purchased Jaguar and David made the decision to feature Jaguar vehicles in lieu of other brands. The enhanced dealer support, marketing, and research Ford would provide for Jaguar was to be a much needed catalyst for growth at the newly named Collier Jaguar.Today, you will find Collier Jaguar to be as successful as ever. Collier customers still experience the service and integrity they realized in the 50’s. The “fruit has fallen close to the tree” as the matriarch of the family, Mary, and the second generation Lynn, Mike, Susan, and David Jr., maintain the old values while looking to the future with a more contemporary Jaguar.
