5 April 2013 ( email) I have a couple of dealerships to add to your database, actually three dealerships, two locations. The first two are from my home town of Sandpoint, Idaho. From a 1948 city directory it is listed as Hiatt & Williams at the corner of second and Pine. From a 1950 edition of the local paper it is advertised as Nelson Motors, Inc. at 121 Pine Street who would deliver a Champion 2-door Custom Sedan for $1711.84. They kept the same phone number 86. Apparently Studebakers were never very popular in Sandpoint and a couple of years later Hudsons were being sold at that location. Obviously that didn’t last long either. By the late 50s AMC vehicles were being sold. That dealership lasted at least into the 70s. The next is from Fort Benton, Montana. In 2011 I purchased a ‘55 President sedan in western Montana. It still has the original keys and the dealer chain and fob From the Bybee Machinery Co., “Authorized Studebaker sales and service” phone 127. In 1955 Fort Benton had a population of about 2200 which is about the same today. Being a rural area it is likely they sold as many or more trucks as cars. I believe there is still an equipment company at the same location, but under a different name. The purchasers of the car lived in Loma, Montana, a few miles up the road.
