Kliment Brothers Garage, Forest Hills, 2003 The last new Studebaker cars were manufactured in 1966. And yet the Kliment Brothers continued to offer factory service and parts well into the 1990s from this garage on Ardmore Boulevard (Lincoln Highway) in Forest Hills, between McKeesport and Pittsburgh. (I just found a 1972 McKeesport phone book. In the yellow pages, under "Automobiles—New," there's a listing for "STUDEBAKER SALES AND SERVICE," and sure enough, there's "KLIMENT BROS.") Until recently, a 1952 Studebaker Commander convertible was displayed in the front window, and there was nearly always a Lark or Hawk or other 1950s vintage Studey being worked on nearby. The window also had neon signs advertising "Automatic Drive" and "Commanders," and there were large wooden cutout letters reading "STUDEBAKER" inside the showroom. The signs are gone. One of the Kliment brothers recently passed away. The remaining brother is selling the garage—which was originally a livery stable—and it will soon be turned into a restaurant. Here are some recent photos; I'll post more as I have time. © 2003 Jason Togyer, all rights reserved.
