John Studebaker photographed in his blacksmith shop. He left Adams County, PA in 1835. He is the father of the five brothers who built the Studebaker car. He was born in 1799 and died in 1877.

He was the father of the brothers who continued the family business. His sons, who are more directly associated with the founding of the Studebaker Corporation, included:

Henry Studebaker (1826-1895) : The older brother of Clement Studebaker. Together, they established the "H & C Studebaker Company" in South Bend, Indiana, in 1852. Henry and Clement started as blacksmiths and wagon makers.

Clement Studebaker (1831-1901): He was the younger brother of Henry and was crucial in the expansion and development of the company from a blacksmith shop into a significant wagon and later automobile manufacturer.

John Mohler Studebaker (1833-1917): He joined his brothers in the business, bringing an investment from his earnings in California back to South Bend to help expand the company.

Peter Everst Studebaker (1836-1897): He was involved in the business operations but less prominent than his brothers Henry, Clement, and John.

Jacob Franklin Studebaker (1844-1887): He also played a role in the family business, particularly in the carriage department.

The company evolved from the H & C Studebaker blacksmith shop into the Studebaker Brothers Manufacturing Company, which was incorporated in 1868, and later became known as the Studebaker Corporation. Henry and Clement Studebaker were siblings who co-founded the initial business that grew into a major corporation."
