Door and Window Handle Clips

This is the type of spring clip

that maintains the handle grip on the serrated stem for the lock or the gear to operatre the windows.

It slides into a slot at the rear of the handle which receives the serrated gear stem from the regulator.  The  gear stem has a groove  which allows the clip some purchase and lock onto the handle.  The slot  is always aligned with the longest part of the handle, so it can go on, either of two directions.    The modified picture shows how the clip should be installed,  so that the tool can be pushed under the trim escutcheon and push the clip free.  note that the clip  can be installed in the opposite direction also.    One main point here is to provide yourself with a catch cover over the handle when you try and get this off.   If you get lucky and feel the handle loosen right away the clip will very often find a way to get lost, as it is a spring.
