//////////////Has anyone ever heard of using the 1955 sedan trunk mount AC unit in a C-K car? The main concern is that even though the compressor is a lay-down style, it isn't going to fit under the hood.//////////// 1955 was the first year for factory A/C, I don't know how many where install there, but Novi was the vendor. 6V and a large compressor with no electic clutch. the only ones I know that had factory air were the sedans. The aftermarket unit of the time used two different styles of compressor (I sure there could of been more) One was what is called a LowBoy the other was a V93 both made by Leehi (SP) I saw a V93 on a coupe in SD in '99, It has to be the only one working in the world. The York compressor used by Studebaker is still being made, a few changes for the good and works great with R134A. The main uses of this compressor is on over the road trucks. I've installed many aftermarket units, and still do, but I would use a Sanden (Sankyo new name) or one like it, and convert to 12Vs Ebon... --------------- When I bought my '54K it had a Mark IV trunk mounted unit, blowing up through the rear package shelf. You might also look for a correct era aftermarket unit if you can't find a '55 Stude one. Both are probably as rare as hens teeth, however. -Dick- ------------
