Greetings all
I have finally completed the disc brake installation on my hawk.
I wanted the backup of a dual master cylinder, this means that because the M/C is under the floor 4W discs means 2 power boosters so I opted to retain the rear drums. I used Nissan 300ZX 4 spot alloy calipers, Nissan Patrol 1 1/16" M/C, Nissan Urvan Remote Reservoir with level switch. This M/C has the right stroke both primary/secondary and with either circuit failed still retains 25% pedal travel for stopping on the remaining circuit. A PBR VH44f power booster. A 2lb front and 10lb rear in line residual valve. I used Nissan gear because they use IFF fittings and all you do is use an M10 flare nut instead of the 3/8"UNF one.
Disc rotor is DBA504 Ford XR8. Caliper is mounted on a laser cut plate.
The front 1 1/16" wheel cylinders are swapped to the rear to increase stopping of the rear.(required because of the larger M/C.
The end result is this car really stops now.
During testing the rear right wheel had a slight tendency to lock just before the front under severe braking on 1 or two runs. I think the balance is spot on. I did 4 120kph to 0 stops in succession with no brake fade.
Here are some pics
Allan.

Hi, Allan,

Interesting setup. The slight locking of the right rear is pretty common on any solid rear axle and has little to do with drum or disc brake there.

thnx, jack vines

Thanks for your comments, I agree, I was trying to say that it appears that "all things taken into account" all 4 wheels lock at the same time.
I was concerned that my calculations would not be accurate and I would have to "tweak" the rear wheel cylinder bore to stop undue rear lockup but it seems to be perfect.
I suppose that most of this is only of interest to Australian Hawk owners but this is the perfect forum so there it is.

Nice job Allan, It's good to finally see all of those bits that you bring along to meetings, all in place and working well. You might have to write something up for Stude News. Dave.
