"SUN VALLEY, IDAHO -- Studebaker was the odds-on favorite for major honors in the 1953 Mobilegas Economy run late Wednesday, as all 20 automotive entrants wound up the three-day gas miser test from Los Angeles to this snow and sun resort without a mishap Portland's first entry in the annual competition, a Studebaker Land Cruiser sponsored by Dan Rasmussen, appeared on its way to the trophy in the automatic transmission section of its price class against four other stock models. Driven by Robert Donkin, Maywood, Cal., Rasmussen's car sqeeezed out 24.18 miles per gallon for the first leg into San Francisco Monday, and 24.49 for the Tuesday stretch into Elko, Nev. And Rasmussen was confident his car stayed in front for the short 248-mile windup in Sun Valley Wednesday." The Rasmussen dealership is still in business as a Mercedes dealer.
