January 1, 1964.  The 6-cylinder models started at C100001 while the V8
models started at C500001.  The 1965 models started at C110001 and the V8
models at C510001.

For 1966, the 6-cylinder models started at C130001 while the V8's started at
C5300001.  Thus yours is the 792nd V8 model built during the 1966 model
year.

While the rest of the North American auto industry adopted a 13-digit VIN
with places for make, series, body style, engine, model year, assembly
plant, and AMC only - transmission,  Studebaker hung on to the 1964-1965
system.


Body tag - V-Y91656 :
"V"  - Engine - V8.  The 6-cylinder models had an "S".  Prior to January 1,
1964, the tag also had the model year.
"Y" - Body Style - 4-door sedan on the 113" wheelbase.  (Prior to 1962,
there was a sedan on a 4" shorter wheelbase - same as the 2-door sedan.)
"9" - Series - Cruiser (8 - Daytona & Wagonaire; 6 - Commander)
"1656" -  Body Number - While the U.S.-built models started at 101 for each
body style, the Canadian plant started at 101 for the first body off the
line, 102 for the second, etc. regardless of body style/series.  Thus your
car was the 1,556th 1966 Studebaker built.   The other 764 cars built were
6-cylinder models.
