Gene, You "should" be able to come up with a used 4-barrel intake. I would recommend you try to find a late (mid-'62-64) manifold for a Carter AFB. I have been able to find several for well under $100. An earlier WCFB 4-BBL manifold won't really be of much help... Your second option is to buy the converted (drilled for AFB) manifold by SASCO 3rd Option is to have your manifold machined to accept a Carter AFB. This may be less expensive if you have a "friend" in the machine shop biz. For Carburetors: IF you already have an original Stude AFB, it will cost you about $300 to have it professionally rebuilt, $30 for the Zip-Kit and a few hours work if you do it yourself. BUT- you will need to be wary of where the AFB comes from, and it may be worn considerably- in which case, even a Zip-Kit won't help much. IF you want alot less "hassle", you can purchase a new AFB "clone" made by Edelbrock #4605 with the electric choke ($239). I have installed one of these on my wife's '61 Hawk 4-speed, and I LOVE it. The install was very easy- with few modifications. No re-jetting wqas required. You're existing linkage can easily be adapted. And wiring the electric choke is also (I just use the red OD switch pigtail already built into the engine wiring harness). I used "heat dissipating" shields to space the carb up about 3/8" because the Edelbrock throttle linkage hits the manifold at 1/3 throttle. Spacing it up gives you plenty of clearance. Air Cleaners: IF you have to have an original Air Cleaner- be prepared to shell out $$$$... these are hard to come by. They are fine for a Stock AFB, but if you have modified the engine in any way (big valves, R1 + cam, etc...) you cannot get enough flow through that small snorkle. IF you want it for a driver car- just buy an aftermarket air cleaner to fit the original or Edelbrock carb. You may need a spacer for linkage/coil clearance- but suitable ones are easily available at most parts stores. UNLESS you absolutely need this for a SHOW CAR, I would do the following: Get the manifold from SASCO Buy the new Edelbrock 4605 Get a "cheap" chrome air cleaner with at least a 2" element (99% will need a spacer also) Install it yourself.
