In my JC Whitney catalog (655C-10, expires Jan 31, 2002) page 201, there are 2 kits for the Fordomatic (FMX) trans but they are only for 68-81. One for $39.95 does not have the front band or modulator. the other does, $59.95. Will these also rebuild the '64 Flight-O-Matic in my '54 LC? TIA John Wipff FieroNut@aol.com I thought the FMX was a different series than the cruise-o-matic. I don't know who said that, the Flightomatic is similar to the Cruise-o-matic, Several of the ford pages that I pulled up when trying to get info on the cruise-o-matic lumped the cruise-o-matic and the FMX as one for parts and such. In fact they included the AOD frequently, noting the only difference was the OD. If I remember correctly, the Ford-O-Matic trans was originally a two speed deal, then went to the Fmx design in the mid to late 50's. If I remember correctly, the original Ford-O-matic (about 1951) started in 2nd gear but it was actually a 3 speed trans. Cruise-O-matic started in low. My understanding is that was the major difference. There was ALSO a 2 speed Ford-O-Matic, similar to PowerGlide, but it was a totally different transmission. and also a C3 version (PRN*DL) were the * was a big green dot (gave 3rd gear for highway) and "D" only gave 1 & 2 for city (T&C = Town & Country transmission) was used in 60's. ----------------- Flight-O-Matic is similar to Ford-O-Matic PowerShift has more in Common with Cruise-O-Matic FMX is a further dirivative of the Cruise-O-Matic such as the disappearance of the rear pump, etc. --------------------- NAPA Microtest lists several different kits for this series depending on many things such as year and case length. The only ones that I know definitively will work are 1-4649 and 1-4680. randee Jan02 ------------------------ just to clear the confusion a little (after all i was a ford guy first) the FMX is a cruise-o-matic with a revised valve body (1-2-3=low-2nd-3rd) the cruisomatics were not the same but were more like the stude in the shift dept. the revision was made in 1969 and all of the trans after that are the same. hawkrod tcherry3@aol.com (TCherry3) jan02 --------------
