85 vette front suspension x member is exactly 1/2 inch narrower than the
inside of a c cab frame. weld in 2 1/2" plates, kicked in 1/4" on each side,
and bolt in the x member, Rack and pinion is also bolted to the vette x
member.
 I have a buddy that we did that to back in 85, We also put the vette rear
3rd member in.
