Someone asked how to identify which steering box?? Look at the lower end where the horn wire comes out. If the end of the casting is somewhat smooth and rounded or if you see what looks like a freeze plug with a hole in it for the horn wire you have the Ross box The Saginaw box had a large diameter (3 inch??) very thin adjusting nut at the lower end. If your box looks as if the large thin nut would fall onto the horn wire as a ring around a string, then that is a Saginaw box. DON'T THROW OUT ALL ROSS BOXES!!! Sometime in the late 50's or early 60s, the Ross boxes were improved with BEARINGS to support the previously SOLID sliding pins. The LATER ones were a whole lot better. You possibly could switch in a LATER Ross box if you can't find the Saginaw. I had horrible steering with the old Ross boxes, but my GT Hawk with later Ross box is not bad at all. David LeVesque
