(R)1662 was produced in early November 1962 and shipped to Hilltop Motors in Wierton, West Virginia. While the earliest owner is not known, at some point the original Avanti Gold body was repainted in Ferrari Red and the interior was (poorly) redone with a 1970’s beige velour scheme.
She was owned at one point, appropriately enough, by an airline pilot who later paid his divorce attorney with this Avanti. In 2002, the car was sold to a Westfield, Indiana enthusiast but infrequently driven – adding only 250 miles to the odometer in two decades. Quite literally, “Annette” was a barn find. The circa 2002 license plate was intact when she was purchased.
Mike Baker of Greenfield, Indiana’s Avanti Restoration & Service did a comprehensive overhaul of the car’s mechanical systems in the spring of 2022.
