California car all its life. No accidents. All service records, original window sticker. Factory manual. Selling as restoration project or parts car. Complete except for headlight covers and badges. I wish I had the time and money to restore this car myself. My dad bought it when I was 17 and I got to drive it occasionally while in high school. Dad was a bomber pilot in the Air Force and I think the overhead switches and red instruments sold him. He is now 96 and doesn't drive and I need to sell it for him. It sat outside for many years in Southern California and although it is all there, it needs virtually everything to be redone inside and out. It is missing only the glass headlight covers and trim rings and the "S" badges that were removed when it was repainted to black. The engine was running when he parked it for a brake problem several decades ago and it hasn't run since. It's a roller but would need to be trailered to a new home. I have the original window sticker, dealer brochures, owners manuals and all the maintenance receipts as well as a factory manual and Avanti magazine issues from 2001 to present. I also have a box of many years of Turning Wheels magazines.

Exterior Views

Car was originally white with turquoise blue interior. It was repainted to black in about 1965 or 1966. Engine compartment is still white. Paint is in rough shape with some fiberglass showing through in some places but the body is in overall sound condition.

The left rear quarter window was shot with a BB and is shattered; however, a new window glass was purchased and is included with the car. Original radio antenna was removed from the car but is included.

Engine Compartment

Engine was running and tranny worked fine when car was parked for a brake problem in 1983. It sat outside for about 15 years before being brought indoors in about 1998 for storage. Battery is missing but everything else is there including original air cleaner, stainless steel spark plug shrouds. Old oil still in engine but no attempt has been made to start it, so I don't know if it will turn over.

There is also a box of assorted filters, electrical and engine parts (not shown).

Interior

Carpets, seat covers, foam and headliner will all need to be redone, but there is enough there for a good interior man to use as a pattern. Original gauges and steering wheel are in good shape but dashboard padding would need repair or replacing. All console trim is present and nothing inside has been repainted from original.

The last photo shows the front seatback upholstery kits that my father purchased years ago and were never installed. (Also shown in the photo are the original roll bar cover, trunk access door and sun visors.

Door interior panels

All trim pieces, handles and switches are present.

Rear Seats

The seat bottoms and backs were stored separately from the car. Foam is pretty bad and covers will need to be reupholstered, but all springs and frames are original.

Headliner (or lack thereof) and a photo under the driver's side dash

Trunk compartment and spare tire well

This shows what is the worst area of paint flaking  off the fiberglass

Headlight glass and chrome bezel are missing. That and the "S" logos from the hood and side "B" pillars are about the only parts missing.

The wheels were sandblasted and painted white in about 1998 and new Michelin tires were installed so the car could be rolled into storage. The car has been rolled in and out of the storage garage many times so I can use my woodworking tools, so the tires are not sitting in the same spot all the time.

Photo 2 shows the original 4 hubcaps and the spare tire cover from the trunk. the wood is pretty much shot but is useable as a pattern.

Underneath views of front suspension and hog troughs on driver's side. Other side is similar. Normal surface rust is present on frame and hog troughs, but nothing structural. It was a California car all its life and rarely driven in the rain. Never driven on salted roads.

Photos of car when new in 1963

Photo 2 shows me in the car at age 17 in front of our house in Riverside, CA. Photo 3 from July, 1963 shows me with the car in Wisconsin on our summer vacation. The last photo from July 1966 shows the car with its new black paint job. I'm on the left with my cousin and brother.

NOTE: Additional photos of any particular area can be taken and e-mailed to those legitimately interested in purchasing the car. I am trying to show the honest condition of the car without covering up any of the parts that need work. Let me know what you want to see and I will do my best to get a photo of it to you or tell you its condition. The car is available for personal inspection in San Marcos, CA. San Marcos is in north San Diego County inland from Carlsbad.

The original title has been lost, but is not needed if the car is to be parted out. If a title is needed I can take the last registration to the DMV and get a new title. I have power of attorney for my father's financial affairs and can sign for him.
