1963 Studebaker Avanti R1- 2243 Avanti Gray with black interior. 289 cu in V8 w/4spd manual transmission. power steering and power brakes Second owner, purchased in 1975. In 1982 the car was professionally stripped and repainted the original color. The chrome pieces were re-chromed and the car was stored in a garage for 22 years, not driven. This is why the paint is in excellent condition. We got the car out five years ago and had the engine pulled and professionally rebuilt. We went through most other mechanical systems and replaced with NOS, new or rebuilt parts. Here is a list of what was done. I may have left some things out here but I do have all receipts and documentation of the process: -professionally rebuilt motor (2500 miles on rebuilt engine) -new radiator -new dual stainless steel exhaust -all new belts/hoses/plugs/distrubutor/wires -gas tank removed, flushed and sealed -new brake lines -new brakes (new front rotors) . new alternator, starter, battery (battery less than two years old) -rebuilt master cylinder -power steering pump seal kit -power steering hoses/slave piston/control valve -rebuilt Carter 4 barrel carburetor (rebuilt by Jon Myer) -new clutch -new shocks -new suspension bushings/brackets -new rear springs -new front springs -U-joints -new turn signal wires -cowl seal -steering wheel alignment and tightening -new rims (ford rims with correct offset to fit new wider tires, I still have the originals also) -new Bridgestone BT70s whitewall tires and more.... The interior is original. All the lights work and the radio works, but I never re-installed the antenna, though I have it. The carpet piece for the driver's front area needs to be replaced. The rest of the carpet is surprisingly good. The drivers seat needs attention but is functional. The headliner needs to be replaced. I basically have done very little to the interior other than clean it up and tighten up a few things. It still looks good. I focused primarily on the mechanicals. There are two chrome wiring covers that I have but are not shown on the engine right now. They are in perfect shape, however. The headlight covers are glass. The windshield wipers work, the motor works, but there is a pin missing that connects a bracket that joins the two wipers so if you turn on the wipers only the drivers side works. If you have a skinny arm and great dexterity you could fix it by reaching under the dash. I chose to never drive the car in the rain for now. The engine runs very well and the car drives straight and true. It's a good running/driving car. Check out these videos on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/larsofthesun This car has no custom modifications other than the stainless exhaust and wheel/tires. It looks great and runs well. The hog trough on the passenger side is still pretty solid. The hog trough on the drivers side has a few holes. I posted pictures. The frame at the very back (behind the rear axle) where the rear tubular cross member (part no. 1501-15) connects is rusted and some new metal should be welded on if you want to install that cross member. I have the new cross member. The car is perfectly drivable the way it is, I just want to make sure I provide all of the information here. I have the owners manual and the original clear plastic sleeve that housed it. I have the parts catalog and repair manual. I have an original beige 'lumbar cushion' for the driver’s seat. Call me if you have questions. 773.342.0158. I would be happy to show the car if you are in the Chicago area.
