Vehicle: STUDEBAKER AVANTI R1 Serial: R-3142 The project is in the midst of restoration. A lot of stuff has been done since the last time it showed up in Utah in 2011. The car has since been sold to someone who exported it to Europe to be precise Switzerland. It has been repaired and serviced since 2015 when it was bought again by a car collector who already owns an R2 supercharged Avanti. The engine has been rebuilt some time ago, we guess within the last 5 years or 10'000 miles. This was with mixed results. Some things have been done on that engine a decent engine builder would not even dream of. So the rocker arms had been ground on a stone freehand and a completely rebuilt Carter AFB carb had so much corrosion it was pulling air from under the gasket. In the works now. The body has been stripped of the "off-white" which had been painted over the original bronze and got a very nice shiny black now. It will get a bit of a "race-trim" this is mainly because part of the interior has been lost over the years and it should be possible with these modifications to get a "veteran" plate for it. It will get new bucket seats in the front. Dash will become black leather, the rear seats removed and a roll cage installed. All remainder will stay original. Most chrome parts will remain original but some rust spots repaired so it will retain a certain patina on some parts. Electrical system will be repaired / replaced in parts to become safe again. The A/C compressor is missing but we will put it back together with all the available components, radiator, dryer. We'll see what to do with A/C further down the road. So this Avanti still exists and should look great some time in 2018. Marc
