This is a 1964 Studebaker Avanti R-1 2 Door Sport Coupe. The Avanti, the Italian word for "forward", was designed by Raymond Loewy's team of Tom Kellogg, Bob Andrews and John Ebstein. The Avanti featured a radical fiberglass body design mounted on a modified Studebaker Lark Daytona 109-inch convertible chassis with a modified 289 Hawk engine. Only 4,643 Avantis (not including prototypes, some of which were assigned serial numbers at the end of the run) were produced. The engine was considered the best V-8 Studebaker had, the 289, which developed 240 bhp in standard tune thanks to a 3/4 race high-lift cam, dual-breaker distributor, four-barrel carb, and dual exhausts. The body doesn't appear to have any cracks or damage. The chrome is also in good condition. The only thing that seems to be missing is the Studebaker script that goes across the rear deck lid. The charcoal grey paint is in good condition, the original color is a copper/gold color. The glass is all good and working. The interior is showing normal wear for this age of a car. The passenger rear upholstery side panel is missing and the driver's seat corner has a seam that has come undone. The front bucket seats were replaced with originals but in black. The dash is complete and original including the radio and the clock. Carpet is in fair to good condition. The rear section of the headliner needs to be replaced. The interior is intact and usable but it is definitely showing it's age. I have only driven this car to load it onto a trailer, it has not been driven by myself for any great distance, but it starts right up and sounds and runs well. The brakes seem to be weak and possibly needing work or attention. The car has power steering, power disk brakes, automatic transmission and air conditioning. Under the hood it appears to be complete and original with the exception of the air cleaner. The original air cleaners are being reproduced in chrome and they are approx. $200. I've seen used original ones for around $100. The car odometer shows 89k miles, I believe it to be the original mileage. Seller reserves the right to end auction early. Deposit of $1,000 is due within 24hrs of auction end and the balance paid within 7 days of auction end. Feel free to email any questions. Thanks for bidding.
