Vehicle: 1963 Studebaker Avanti R-1 (non-supercharged) Serial (VIN) number: 3541 Specifications: 4-speed manual transmission with normal lever attached to a Hurst shifter, no power steering, no air conditioning, power brakes. Owner: Charles Garnier 1927 N. Birchwood Avenue Appleton, WI 54914 Email: cgarnier@new.rr.com Phone: 920-739-4986 A brief history of the vehicle: I am the third owner of the vehicle, having purchased it in May, 1989. The vehicle was originally purchased in Oshkosh, WI by an MD (name unknown) who drove it for a few years and sold it to a buyer in Green Bay, WI (name available). He stored it for about 15 years then completed a cosmetic restoration in 1984, including new paint. Since my purchase the following upgrades, changes and improvements have been made by various professionals: 1. Radial tires with proper width white walls. 2. Complete engine rebuild including new crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods, valves and camshaft. Hardened valve seats, bore increased to give 304 cubic inches displacement. 3. Electronic ignition and regulator. 4. New front disk brake rotors and pads (2007). 5. Complete transmission rebuild. 6. Fully re-manufactured Carter AFB 4 barrel carburetor installed (2009). 7. Water pump replaced several times at reasonable intervals. 8. New high performance spark plug wires (2009). 9. Rebuilt alternator. 10. Rebuilt starter 11. Battery replacement (2007). A neat old format battery still available for tractors! The Avanti is driven daily except during winter. I have driven the car to New Jersey, Tennessee, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan; for various Studebaker meets. In all the years, only a failed alternator caused a breakdown. The paint color applied in 1984 is 1970 Cadillac Eldorado 'cinnamon fire mist' using Dupont Centauri paint and clear coat. It is still in good condition. The chrome is excellent. The hood ornament and side ornaments are slightly faded but excellent. The chassis is rust free including the 'hog troughs' and tubular rear stabilizer bar. The interior is very good with slight wear on the bucket seats only. The car has always scored in the mid-high second place category at Studebaker International meets and has been featured in the 'Blue Ribbon Concourse" at the Iola, WI car show.
