Note Dec 2010 ( Jack Anderson, (ILM) Attached are pictures of "The Burn Job", as I affectionately called it. It is serial #63R4056, body # RQ-2954, engine #R-2792, assembled 4/10/63, with a destination of Oakland, CA. I bought the car on 6/24/88 for $1800 from Jonathan Novak, Seabright, NJ. At the time I lived in Drexel Hill, PA (suburb of Philadelphia). Jonathan had owned the car for some time, but 9 years prior to selling it the car suffered an electrical fire centered near the voltage regulator on the left inner fender. The hood and fender were melted, and the firewall was scorched. Odometer read about 90K miles. Jonathan had put a tow hitch on it - he had towed a trailer in some cross-country trips. Though not running after the fire, the car was otherwise complete. It was an Avanti Gold car (though all in gray primer at time of sale), black interior, R-1, automatic, factory A/C. On a later business trip, I stopped at the old South Bend assembly plant and bought an NOS hood, fender, and filler piece from Newman-Altman. I paid $400 for the hood, a couple hundred $ more for the other pieces. These were late-1980's prices. Back to "The Burn Job" - I never did a damn thing to the car. We moved from PA to DE in 1992, and I had it towed to the new home. As mentioned, I got distracted by other projects. Around 6 years ago I decided that - since I had one stock Avanti - I wanted to "street-rod" the project car. I bought a 454 Chevy engine for it, and sold the Stude 289 and auto transmission to a Stude collector in Arnold, MD (forget his name - Greek name), whom I had met at the annual meet in Lancaster, PA. Of course, I never got started on the Avanti, and in 2007 I came across the '65 Pontiac. It was a car I had been coveting for years, so I bought it. Unfortunately, garage space didn't allow room for 4 cars, so I sold "The Burn Job" to make room. It went for $2950 on eBay to Lance Beard, Clarksville, MD. I've not talked to Lance since then, so I don't know if he's done any work on the car. You should be able to reach him at Lance.Beard@jhuapl.edu if you want an update.
