Lot S164 1964 Studebaker Avanti R-3 Coupe Sherwood Egbert's Personal Avanti Prototype Kissimmee, FL Auction January 22 - 24, 2009 This Lot scheduled to be sold SAT 5:10PM Options: R-3 engine (B-98 serial number), plus all available 1964 accessories including tilt wheel, power windows, brakes and steering, factory AM-FM radio, 8000 RPM (R-3) tachometer, original factory Halibrand mag wheels. Custom supercharger auxiliary cooler system installed by Paxton-Granetelli and front end modified for Bonneville speed run. Also, had custom badging with Sherwood Egbert's initials instead of Studebaker "S". Background: This was the styling change "1964 prototype" car for 1964. It was taken offline, sent to engineering and fitted with square lights, additional cowl grill, radiator grill, drip moldings, and numerous interior changes including thick back seats and wood grain interior detail. Some items such as light switch bezels and metal fresh air grills never made it to market. It was then used for 1964 advertising brochures and advertisements. Chief engineer H.T. Reynolds. It was then titled personally to Sherwood Egbert, the president of Studebaker who served from 1961-1963, when he left the company and moved to California. Egbert died in 1968 and had sold the car months before his death to Richard Christie in Seattle, Washington.
