I wish to add a serial number to your "Avanti Database". Following several years of searching for closing info on 'Uncle Johns' Avanti, a relative, cleaning out some papers, found the original warranty certificate and owner service policy. Cousin Steve and I knew the tragic demise of it, but we never knew the serial number. It was a 1963 Avanti, with an R3 engine. Yes, the factory did not produce any '63s with the R3, but the Hamilton, Ontario factory did a (factory authorized) switch. A long story, I had a two page article about Uncle Johns Avanti in a local Studebaker bi-monthly publication. I won't go into details here, but Uncle John contacted cancer not long after he purchased the car. He had to sell it, and the young fellow who purchased it could not handle it, and totalled it. I understand from a South Bend conversation, that the engine went to Pennsylvania. The year would have been about 1968. I put a lot of miles on that beauty, what an automobile !! So, you may add R 4501 to the data base, with the addition that it was totalled. May I bother you with an enquiry, Uncle Johns Avanti was "Avanti Gray" ( P6335), Steve and I do NOT remember it as a metallic finish, just as a plain gray. I cannot find that colour as a 'chip' or swatch anywhere, and on any Studebaker info, that colour just does not exist. Where could I find a colour chart, and any information or history as to why it seems to be a "ghost" colour. Thank you very much. Owen Delve Goderich, Ontario.
