Vehicle Description This is an original 1964 Avanti that was owned by the same family in Pasadena California from new until I purchased the car in April of this year. THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN RESTORED - BECAUSE IT NEVER NEEDED RESTORATION! The car was purchased new by Melodie and Lee Basich. Lee was one of the founders of the Avanti Owners Association in 1965, (it has a "Charter member" AOAI plate on the console)and the car was always babied in his and Melodie's ownership. Upon Lee's death, Melodie gave the car to her dad, NBC band leader and noted car collector Don Ricardo. I bought the car from Don Ricardo's estate, and I met and talked to Melodie at the time I purchased it. This Avanti is without a doubt the nicest driving Studebaker Avanti I have ever driven, and I have owned quite a few. The car has no rust- nor has it ever had rust, The original hog troughs (sub frame boxes) and frame are great and need nothing. The car starts and runs with just one twist of the key. The car is currently Virginia State safety inspected, titled and tagged. Vehicle Condition This is a very original car that is very nice throughout. The car was repainted just once (in the 1970's)after the gas tank overflowed when it was filled and parked outside on a hot day. The paint work was of a high quality, and it looks great today. Lee installed a "devil Dog" alarm on the car, Don installed a Klaxon horn. I left them on because they are so darn interesting. The interior of the car is quite nice, and needs nothing. The car runs and drives as well as any Avanti I have seen - no excuses. This is a very late Studebaker Avanti - just a few hundred from the last one's built. It has an AM radio (an eight track was installed later), Automatic transmission, and Power steering and brakes. This car took an over 200 mile trip this past summer - no problems! I have had extensive recent service done to the car. Please note - this is an almost 40 year old car that has not been restored. It is nice everywhere you look, and the miles as stated are original. it is not, however, a brand new car. I URGE - AND ENCOURAGE - YOU TO ARRANGE TO COME TO SEE THE CAR, OR HAVE SOMEONE SEE THE CAR FOR YOU. I find answering multiple e-mails with multiple questions is a difficult task - so, if you are interested in bidding on my car, please call me at my office at 703-759-9100. I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
