NY Times Royall Victor, 75, Retired Law Partner of Cravath, Swaine By BRUCE LAMBERT Published: January 10, 1992 Royall Victor Jr., the retired presiding partner of a prominent Manhattan law firm, died Wednesday at Concord Hospital in Concord, N.H. He was 75 years old and lived in Hopkinton, N.H., and Webster, N.H., and previously was a longtime resident of Glen Head, L.I. He died of complications from pneumonia and kidney failure, his family said. In a 40-year career at Cravath, Swaine & Moore, Mr. Victor was a partner for 28 years and the presiding partner from 1977 until his retirement in 1980. The firm, one of the largest and most influential in New York City, specializes in corporate law and litigation. Among his clients were Studebaker, General Dynamics and Chemical Bank. In business he served as the board chairman of Indian Head, a textile company, and was on the boards of Field Enterprises and the Rockaway Corporation. Among his volunteer activities, he was a former member of the executive committee of the Metropolitan Opera Association and a past trustee of the Middlesex and Greenvale Schools. He was a trout fisherman and a pilot.
