This exceptional original street, non-restored 1964 Studebaker R2 Avanti is one of only 703 built. It is not a restoration and you would be the third owner if you purchased this gem of a collectible. Avanti is the Italian word for FORWARD, and this factory Paxton supercharged 240HP R2 should be used as the standard for what restorers should aim for if they had to restore one. This car was cherished by the original owner and has never seen bad weather. It performs today like the day it was sold. It is an unmolested car. Even the original RADIO and clock works. Take a close look at the airplane style cockpit layout of the driver’s compartment. It is truly advanced and forward thinking. This car has been to many car shows and everyone who sees it just marvels at how ahead of it time this vehicle was. It turns heads and gets smiling nods wherever it goes. You will not see many of them for much longer. Avanti boasted a fiberglass body with a radical razor edged front fender design which gets attention everywhere it shows up. It is so very rare that many owners have it trailer driven to car shows. Notice from the photos that this car was seldom used for passengers. The owner enjoyed driving this car so much that he collected a large amount of Studebaker materials that are available with the car. This model is an R2 with the best Studebaker Super Charged 289 V-8. It was completely inspected and overhauled in our shop before this auction and it is ready to drive to your next car show. Though Studebaker is no longer producing cars, the Avanti is still producing smiles and nods of respect for one of America’s historic and iconic automobile manufacturers. Owning this car will continue the legend that is Studebaker. Features: Avanti featured many automotive concepts that were ahead of its time.
