1963 Studebaker R-1 Avanti. Restored 63,000 miles. 289 CID Studebaker V-8. PS, PB, new BBS wheels. I have the original wheel covers if you want them. Polyurethane paint, interior was re-done. New stainless exhaust, new brakes pads/shoes. Runs very well. Avanti history: Studebaker called the world's most famous designer Raymond Lowey (designer of the coke bottle) and asked him to design a sports car -- something so striking and unusual that buyers would come running to their dealerships just to see it. Avanti was introduced at the New York Auto Show in April 1962. Starting price was $4,445, $193 more than the dramatic new Corvette Sting Ray. Production Avantis broke 29 speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats in the spring and summer of 1962, including a flying-mile record of 168 mph. Total production in 1963 was 3,834. The car has been called the car of the stars. Here’s a partial list of owners: Johnny Carson, Barbara Walters, Frank Sinatra, Rod Sterling, Michael Landon, Sandy Koufax, Andy Granatelli, Dick Van Dyke, Alice Cooper and more. Why spend 50-k plus for a camaro, mustang or mopar musle car when you can own a really rare trend-setting 60’s Avanti for a fraction of the price.
