I bought the Avanti from the son of the second owner who lives in New Market, MD. As I understand it his father bought it in '82 & kept it at home in Medford, NJ. From what I can tell, no one ever registered it w/ AOAI. I do have a 'Expressly Avanti Catalog of Parts' with a customer number of Asha07. The car was originally silver but is now gold. There was a interior fire at a repair shop in the early '90s which is when the repaint & interior were done. The son drove it to & from high school!!!! He dated his wife in it but, went to the prom in one of Dad's Jaguars??? It's been garage kept for most of it's life, until now.... It has been reported to have reached an observed 130 mph on nondisclosed NJ roads on serveal occassions. The father was killed 10 years ago in a boating accident, Mom drove it for awhile and then the son took it and his bride with him to MD. Now with four kids under 10 and commuting to California, the Avanti was taking up too much garage room. The son admits to not being a 'car guy' and from the look of the engine compartment I won't argue. His neigbor is in an escalator/Elevator Apprenticeship program here. About 18 months ago he saw my AOAI calender & said his neighbor had one of those!!!! I gave him my card about every other time that he stopped by, to no avail. Which was just as well as my bride thought about the Avanti the same way the Checker folk did!!! (Side note, our daughter's first car was a '74 Checker & I had to settle for a '84 Monte Carlo SS as my Avanti!?!) I finally connected with the owner, first saw the car and bought for 10 cents a mile on Sept 21st. I got to drive it home on the 27th. evening. It needed the front wheel bearings repacked, a tie rod end, 2 power steering hoses & 4 shocks. It took almost 3 weeks for the parts to arrive, but now it is mine!!!! I flushed the engine, transmission, cooling system and rear axle after getting the car in September.
