First, The Avanti is an amazing car. The design was created by the famous industrial designer Raymond Loewy in the early sixties. These were in limited production with the same body style from about 1962 to 1995. About 300 were produced in 1983 when this car was built. It was marketed as a very unique personal luxury car that was made-to-order. Here is a link to some of the amazing history: http://www.avantisource.com/history.html The Avanti has a fiberglass body which makes it a great project car. Even in the condition it is in now it gets attention and smiles from other motorists. It has the look of an exotic car with a drivetrain from General Motors which makes it reliable and practical. The ignition system is from Chrysler. I believe the drive train is a model L-69. That is a 305 cubic inch High Outpput V-8 and a four speed automatic transmission and I believe it was reported to get 20 miles per gallon with highway driving. It has Recarro leather seats and a We purchased this car two years ago as a project car I could work on with a teenage child. Unfortunately illness prevented us from starting the project. We've probably only driven it about 150 miles. While we've owned it we had the gas tank rebuilt and the engine's carburetor adjusted and the engine control computer replaced. It now starts very reliably. The tires are white walls in good shape. It has the original wire wheels (I believe they are Borroni wheels from Italy) along with the Avanti wheel covers. Here is a list of what needs work: 1. The moon-roof doesn't seal properly and needs lubrication and adjustment. 2. The windshield washer fluid tank has a leak. 3. The hog troughs should be checked and possibly replaced. 4. The carpet got wet and had to be removed to be cleaned. It needs to be properly re-installed. (It is installed, but the edges are untrimmed.) 5. I don't know if the air conditioning works. I don't know how to turn it on and the controls are not well marked. 6. The exhaust system needs work. The good news is that it looks like a basic GM exhaust system. 7. The license plate light in the back needs a new bracket. 8. The paint sun-baked, chipped, and faded and needs to be completely redone.
