OUR HISTORY
The
David Taylor Automotive Group legacy began in the early 1900’s with
Taylor Studebaker dealership in Blum, Texas (a small town located about
an hour South of Fort Worth) owned by Tom Taylor, David Taylor Jr.’s great grandfather.
The
story continues with Tom Taylor’s son, Emry, following in his father’s
footsteps in the 1920’s by taking a job with the Oakland dealer in
Cleburne, Texas which is about 15 miles north of Blum. Emry advanced to
sales manager at the dealership in 1926, the same year Oakland put an
Indian head on the radiator cap and changed its name to Pontiac.
He left that dealership in 1927 to pursue an opportunity with an
eight-year old company called GMAC in San Antonio, Texas (GMAC was the
first tenant of San Antonio’s Milam Building which, upon its opening in 1927, was the first air-conditioned building in Texas)
In
1940, Emry Taylor moved to Port Arthur, Texas to manage Mart May Motors
which handled Oldsmobile until the end of World War II. While
Emry was running the business, the dealership added Cadillac to its
brands in 1947. He purchased the business in 1960 changing its name to
Taylor Motors.
Emry’s son, David W. Taylor
Sr., began his automotive career in 1957 in Port Arthur. In 1965, at
just 28 years old, he acquired a Buick dealership in Beaumont, Texas
becoming the youngest Buick dealer in the country. In 1975, David
opened David Taylor Cadillac in Houston, establishing an icon in Cadillac dealers that’s been recognized nationally. He added Buick to the dealership in 1990 and Pontiac and GMC in 2004.
David Taylor Cadillac/Buick has won numerous factory awards over the years for sales and service. David Taylor
Sr., served on the Buick and Cadillac Dealer Councils, on the National
Buick Dealers Advisory Committee in 1992 and 1993, and was president of
the Gulf Coast Cadillac Dealers Association for 15 years.
David Taylor Jr., continues the tradition of excellence for the Taylor family dealerships. From the moment you enter their cobblestone drive, it’s obvious that they do things differently. Their attention to detail, the respect they have for their staff and customers, as well as the second-to-none service, represents the philosophy the Taylor family established more than a century ago.
