Studebaker Dealers

........One town we went to was Sequin Texas. Looking at the list of Studebaker dealers in Texas on Bob Johnstone's great Studebaker reference website, we noted that Weyel Motors was a Studebaker dealer in Seguin, located at 420 North Austin Street. According to Bob's listing Weyel Motors started with Studebaker in 1949. I'm not sure how long they stayed with Studebaker, but I did find a Weyel Motors newspaper ad for the 1962 Studebakers. From the lettering still visible on the sides of the service area, later Weyel Motors was a Buick and Jeep dealer.

We did locate the building at 420 North Austin Street, and took the following pictures. Today it's business selling used clothes and other items in the old showroom. We were not allowed back in the service area so I'm not sure what that is being used for, or what 'artifacts' might be back there. One really cool artifact was the 'STUDEBAKER' letters still mounted over the restroom doors. I've seen pictures of these in other old dealerships, apparently they were from the late 1940s but I'm sure Dick Quinn can provide more accurate information. There are two pics of those cool letters below. There was also a picture of a Studebaker convertible hanging on the wall under the Studebaker letters, but no information on its significance. It is hard to take a shot of this picture since the glass was so reflective, but its posted at the bottom.

Does anyone own a Studebaker that was originally sold from the Weyel Motors dealership?
