Installing/replacing a worn Power Window Regulator Spring
Mar 2011

The spring should assist the upward motion of the glass. When the regulator is in the upmost position you still should have some tension so you need to take a plier and wrap that spring tight and lock it in. When the regulator is down it is wound very tightly.

Wrap spring with care.... Use a C-clamp around the assembly to contain the spring

A friend of mine and I have been working on this problem on his '81. The spring should be wound counterclockwise as much as possible without binding. This will give the mechanism as much preload as possible since there is a big load to lift. As you will probably note there is no problem going down.
