Recently had my power steering pump cleaned and replaced seals, But... still leaking. Does this mean the mechanic did not do it properly, or could there be another issue? It works perfectly fine, as it did before, just leaking quite a bit.

If you got a kit from SI the shaft seal is probably the offender. In compairing the new versus the old, I found that new seal wasn't a double lip type like the old one . CarQuest a seal that looked more like the old seal, part # 6835 S . It is a bit tricky to install, it beats buying another kit from SI. Good Luck Lou Cote
Hi, dynolou2. Thanks for the advice on the CarQuest seal. Have you actually installed this #6835S seal in the Avanti power steering pump, and then run it? I appreciate your time in replying. Best, John in Wisconsin
I had a groove worn in a pump shaft where the seal rides. The fix was a speedy sleeve from the bearing supply store.

Yes I have it was a direct crossover to the factory seal by number. Getting the shaft thru the seal is the tricky part which is why I researched aanother seal, rather than sending off for another kit. Lou Cote
Great info! Thanks again for the interchange number, Lou. John
Jaybot.....I recently had the same problem with the shaft seal......In my case, I destroyed the seal trying to install it on the end of the shaft......Timkem bearing #470954 OR #470141 will fit and work fine, the difference between the two is one is a little wider than the other, either one will work......I wrapped the end of the shaft with masking tape until it was even with the seal surface and installed the seal, then removed the tape......No problem at all......Keep on Studebakering
