Oct 2005 Aftermarket disk brake kits ----------------------------------------------- Here is what I did on my Lark VI. I couldn't find the discs that Jim Turner recommends for his kit so based upon an SDC member in Canada I used Crown Vic discs which were $25 each The rest of the parts are the sme as Turner sets his kits up with. On the rear I replaced the drums with new Jeep 10 inch finned drums but I kept the 6 cylinder wheel cylinders. I have no booster and the Lark stops much more easily than when it had drums all around. I have tried to lock the rear brakes to no avail except when it was really wet on smooth blacktop - you know, those roads that need a seal coat with rock to get traction back when they are wet. If you punch the brakes really hard you will feel like you are going to exit through the windshield and they do not lockup - front or rear. Keep the small rear cylinders to limit the amount of force on the shoes. Force multiplication on the front discs with 2"+ diameter caliper cylinders generates a tremendous amount of force; more than the equivalent weight of the car. I have thought about putting in a booster but it may be a remote type instead of a firewall mount and will only actuate the discs. They do the majority of the stopping anyway.
