Note the wiring schematic. There's a white ground on this circuit also. The four wires at the switch are Black, Red, Green and Yellow.... Heavy gauge wire ( 10#) When you operate the windows, glance at the Ammeter and see how much draw they take.

63 - 70 Avanti Power Window Wiring

Reg/Green = Lower Window Yellow/Green = Raise Window
Black = +12V Power There is a White Ground wire ( not shown) on each motor to the a chassis ground.

Note the spring, mounted in the pocket just above the motor. this spring winds UP as the window travels DOWN and eases the amount of power needed to raise it. An additional spring can be mounted on the outer scissor axis, noted by the slot in the pivot point. This can make life easier also.

Motor & Transmission

Coupling that connects motor to transmission / Removing the 2 screws adjacent to the top of the motor flange will separate the two

This is a Bosch window motor, same as used on a Ford of the same year / They draw a lot of current and use 10 gauge wiring for power transmission through switches, etc.

This is the transmission, where a worm gear, coupled to the motor armature, turns a gear to actuate the regulator. The gear casiing here shows how compacted the grease will become after a lifetime of use. The increase of turning resistance here, will impart a strain on the motor and can cause it to burn out. By merely cleaning this small gearbox and adding fresh grease can make your windows act like new. Read the above section on the Ammeter draw indication. If the gauge swings full scale when operating the windows, it's time to clean this area.

Note the insulation chipping off the green wire and the red one behind. Likely due to heat and age. These motors draw 15-20 amps when operating and any compromise, unintentional ground or miswiring when assembling the system will fry a motor in a heartbeat. Be careful.
Note: Along with the regulator transmission, take account of the plastic rollers that support the window and ease movement through the regulator guides. A bit of white Lithium grease here can make things work much easier also.
