Bought this car about 3yrs ago, as a parted out car, that was bought from
an insurance company. It was owned by a leasing company in New Jersey, which (deals in) classic cars.
According to the build sheet it was originaly an R(2) 4 speed, Avanti gold.
The car appears to never been painted any other color. Last, it was powered
by a Chevy , automatic, air cond. Everthing was gone and the rear had been
replaced with a later Stude Dana 44 3:31 TT.
I have: Rebulit the rear , new springs, replaced radius rods, rear cross
member, repaired hog trough, 4 wheel Turner brake system, small block Ford ,
C4 trans. The car is not (yet)running
R(2) automatic, 3:31 rear. Gold With Fawn interior. Undergoing total restoration. Purchased 5/02

This Avanti was built as an R(1) car in December '62 and was upgraded to R(2) several years ago when the ground-up restoration was done. The engine was completely rebuilt to R(2) specifications with an R(3) air box. It has power steering, power brakes, tinted windows and an AM radio. This show-condition car is Avanti red with fawn interior.

The vehicle is in remarkably good shape for it.s age but it
has been "Blaked" at some point in it.s past. The original R910/R(2)?
is no longer there being supplanted by a Chevy SB and Turbo 400
tranny. The interior is that of an eighties Avanti(verrry nice
w/Leather Recaro.s!). However on day two the problems started poking
their ugly little heads out.......first the oil pressure gauge goes
dead and then the water temp gauge goes erratic. Looking like
grounding problems. A quick check under the dash also exposed a
anti-theft system of some unknown type/age.

R1 Was my fathers back in the late 60's early 70's then sold to my uncle (his brother), then to my aunt (thier sister) then to me Aug 2003. I can remember riding in the Avanti when I was little. Avanti Red, fawn interior with black carpets. All original, but has been repainted once. Needs alot of work, such as exhaust, brakes and a basic tune up. It is what my father and I call a "ten foot car".

The car was originally sold new in Florida at some point someone was trailering it and had strapped it down using the front sway bar. The sway bar pulled off and when the car fell off the the trailer it ripped most of the front end off. Some time after that, I believe the early 80's, the car was either in a restoration shop or was being restored by the owner at the time. The car was stripped down and a N.O.S. front end was found, however the couple that owned the car got a divorce and sold the car to Weldon Critcher in Boone, NC. I bought the car from him in 2004 and have been working on it slowly since. I put the N.O.S. front end on the car.(upd. Mar 2007)

renewed again in 1997 to conform to Switzerland state regulations so
that it could be used on the road. Currently, the dash gages are metric
and sports a speedometer that reads in KPH's. The true mileage is unknown,
possibly over 150,000 miles travelled but you could never tell by looking
at the car.

Owned by father, undergoing frameoff restoration. Will be rebodied
from donor car R-1331.
Originally my father's car purchased about 1967
from the original owner, Helen Tyson, who bought it new in the West
Palm Beach area. An R1, automatic, with a/c, white exterior,
turquoise/fawn interior. Shipped to Florida to begin a frame off
restoration. Body was too far gone to salvage but the frame and engine
were fine. I found a pristine body on eBay with a totally rusted out
frame, no engine or tranny, and purchased it from Suzanne Stolle of
Appleton, Wisconsin in August 2003. That Avanti was R1331, and I towed
it to Florida to use that body on my frame. Restoration on R2990 is
progressing nicely and may be finished by end of 2006. The Avanti
turned a lot of heads when I was a kid riding in her with Dad. It is
a tribute to my father and a labor of love to bring her back to life
and travel the road again in it and turn some more heads!
